The grant targets undergraduates enrolled at accredited Texas institutions who lack prior formal CS training due to secondary school limitations. The grant covers a maximum of $7,200 annually toward tuition and fees, with renewal contingent on maintaining a 3.2 cumulative GPA and completion of two internship credits with Texas technology employers.
Unlike Oklahoma or Louisiana programs that apply uniform rural weighting factors, Texas requires applicants to document delivery capacity across its 23 counties classified as frontier by the state health services department. Border institutions emphasize bilingual software development for cross-border logistics, while Permian Basin community college transfers focus on data analytics applied to oilfield operations.
