Cross-border tourism generates significant revenue yet requires specialized knowledge of international payment systems and multilingual booking tools. Rural operators in these counties lack consistent access to updated course materials on these systems.
Funding for technological innovations in hospitality training targets this split by prioritizing rural delivery mechanisms. Grants support mobile training units and partnerships with regional workforce boards in counties where provider density falls below one certified instructor per 5,000 hospitality workers.
Applications must demonstrate delivery capacity in counties outside the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Austin metro statistical areas. Eligible entities include Texas community colleges, hotel associations, and tribal gaming operations that document existing infrastructure gaps through state workforce commission data.
Award criteria require proof of prior training delivery in at least three non-metro counties and matching funds from local economic development corporations.
