Summary

This grant program is designed to help nonprofit organizations in the state of Texas whose work involves preserving or promoting the history and cultural heritage of the state. Eligible nonprofits are those with recognized tax‑exempt status (501(c)(3)) that have well‑defined, active projects connected to Texas history—this might include historic buildings or sites, archival materials, museum programs, documented Texas legal or legislative history, archaeology, educational initiatives, cultural heritage arts, public history events or publications, or curriculum work about state history.

There are a few different kinds of grants. Smaller “micro” grants are available every quarter, up to about $8,000. These are meant to support community‑level preservation and history related projects—to seed or augment work at a local scale. Then there are larger annual grants, with requests allowable up to about $25,000, for nonprofits with more substantial or ongoing historic preservation or public‐history efforts. In addition, there is a special awards program that provides larger amounts (for example, between $10,000 and $100,000) for high‑profile architectural preservation or other major historic preservation projects.

Applicants are invited to submit a letter of inquiry first in certain cycles; some grant tracks have deadlines several times a year, others annually. After the LOI stage, selected applicants may be asked to submit a full application. Grantees are required to report on project progress—either annually for ongoing work, or upon project completion.

In summary, this grant opportunity is a good fit for nonprofits in Texas doing work in historic preservation, museums, archives, cultural heritage, education about state history, and related fields. It supports a range of project sizes—from small, local‑scale work to more ambitious preservation projects.
