Faculty holding appointments at these sites also manage higher uninsured-patient volumes, which increases protocol amendment frequency when standard-of-care drug access shifts.
The foundation’s clinical-trial mechanism offsets these expenses through direct reimbursement of investigational-agent acquisition and central laboratory assays. Proposals must document that the principal investigator holds a Texas faculty appointment, completed postdoctoral training, and maintains independent laboratory space. Budgets may request up to 35 percent of total direct costs for multi-site coordination stipends when the lead site serves at least three additional Texas institutions.
Cost-sharing requirements align with Texas statute on state-supported research. Matching funds from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas may be cited, provided the narrative demonstrates that CPRIT dollars will not duplicate foundation-supported assay costs. Successful proposals also itemize how existing Texas health-information exchanges will transmit trial data without new infrastructure outlays. The Texas Health Services Authority’s network already covers 187 hospitals; investigators who leverage this backbone reduce budgeted data-management line items by an average of 18 percent according to 2022 CPRIT grantee reports. Faculty must confirm current appointments at accredited Texas institutions and provide letters detailing protected research time of at least 35 percent effort during the award period.
